Since the declaration of the entire valley as a World Heritage Site in 1997 most cottages in the kloof have been restored to their original design as part of a combined effort by the original Western Cape Nature Conservation, us and interesting parties forming the Gamkaskloof Advisory Committee. On our own farm we complied with the general advice and our few restored cottages hopefully exert the same nostalgic charm that inhabited these fine dwellings. Each cottage promises to be a different and well-worth experience…….!
These self-catering units provide basic facilities like warm water, flush toilets, a gas fridge and cooker. Basic cutlery, crockery and pots and pans are provided in all the cottages. Bedding in the form of duvets and pillows can be supplied (see later). Firewood for the outside braais is provided on a daily basis. There is no electricity and lighting is cared for by lanterns and candles.
Apart from the shallow pools in the mountain stream, there is a plastic-lined farm dam, situated behind and above the private “Plaashuis” to cool off in. Our guests are invited and encouraged to make use thereof. It also offers magnificent views of the farm and parts of the Gamkaskloof valley.
